The Great Hall continued with the chaos of battle. Gimlack and the Colonel bumped into each other, both trying to take cover at a support beam, and both moved on, directing hell down upon their enemies. Fire exploded into the north-east corner of the room, engulfing and killing the young giant who was heir to the chiefdom. The bear came rushing out, both terrified and enraged, a ball of fur, flame, and tooth. It ran for the cover of the great table, but met a small group of soldiers there. The soldiers cut the bear down, but not before one of their number was mauled to death amid screams. The elementals turned northward, after the giantess was pummelled to death by flying stones. The doors now undefended, Captain Caine leaped his horse over the barricade and rode up to the Colonel, saying, "Ho! We're giving these buggers what-for, eh?" But the last of the big hill giants emerged from the smoking corner, badly burned but still alive. Doc's guns banged out and the giant staggered, and Donnell shot an arrow into his thigh, but still the giant hefted a great stone that he hurled toward the Captain. Caine would have been crushed for sure had the Stone Giant Laerthar not reached out and caught the rock in one hand, as if it were a game of pass-ball, and he threw it back, smashing the Hill Giant in the head and knocking him dead. With Mudsmuck's head rolling across the floor and Kahru bellowing his victory cry, one could only look about the carnage with amazement. The group had gone Against the Giants and stood Victorious!
