--- Bifyrd Manor - The Great Hall --- Eventually Tarren manages to get into the house and up to the balcony without being spotted, waylaid or intercepted. The meeting has already started. Tarren finds a place out of sight, even of someone on the balcony. He can hear what is going on, but can't see. "Are you be sure that there is a connection between Myrel's disappearance and those that left the tracks?" someone asks. Tarren recognises the voice of Forissa of Abren, a priestess at the local Peonian temple. "There is no other explanation for why she hasn't been found. The dogs lost her scent around where the tracks begin," Lumin responds. "I think you should keep looking around the manor. It could just be a coincidence." Tarren doesn't recognise the voice. The speaker is male however. "We will keep looking, while you are gone," Inlysë says. Inlysë's voice is quiet and tightly controlled. She is Myrel's mother, and Tarren is familiar with her voice. "Even if the two events do turn out to be unrelated, then it leaves the question: "Whose tracks are those, and why are they sneaking around the manor?" There is a mutter of agreement around the table. "What kind of tracks were they?" another person asks. To Tarren, it sounds like that of Yoreth of Kelis a yeoman and beadle of Bifyrd manor. "How many were there?" Lumin answers this time. "We are not sure. More than a couple, less than a score. The boat, judging by the marks left in the bank, wouldn't have been big enough to carry no more than that." Forissa speaks up again. "How do we know which way they went, once on the river?" "The tracks lead to Broke-back bend," Mosa responds. "On way back I followed river down streams. None of the folks that ways recall seeing or hearing anything unusual. And the wee folk are pretty sharp. I doubt anyone slipped by them unnoticed. So either they crossed over directly or went upsteams is my my guess." "I still think we should take horses," rumbles the unknown male's voice. "The boat that's being brought around is too small to carry horses, Sir Guarin. As was mentioned before," Sarin says slightly sharply. "They could swim across," is the response. "And what if we have to travel upstream some ways?" Sarin counters. "They could follow along the bank," returns the one with the deep voice. "Its pretty wild that side of the river. Horses won't be any advantage," Mosa interjects. "And the river is not easy to get too in most places. Broke-back is one of the few places you can do so easily." "We don't have enough horses anywise. Massy and Ferguson were both run pretty hard this morning. Midlock is lame. Ash and Willow with foal. And Thunder is a draft horse." Lumin's tone is more conciliatory than Sarin's. Lumin sounds weary. Almost ... bored?. A door opens and closes, and there is a lull in the conversation. Someone murmurs something. "Good," Lumin says quietly. Then more loudly he adds. "The staff have prepared the provisions and gear. There is enough for 4 days in each bag. If there is anything else you want, just ask." "Then I think we are done here. We should get moving," Forissa says. "Right. We will meet outside the front of the manor in 10 minutes," Lumin concludes. The hall is filled with noise as people push back benches and start moving around, talking amongst themselves.
