Kerall is left mouth-open by the Oracle's revelation. After a few seconds, he looks around carefully to see if they are alone, and then starts speaking: "I'll try to be short. The memories are painful, but thanks to the friends who helped me, the wounds are now healing. I used to live in a far, far away land. There was a plague, and my wife perished. When my daughter contracted the disease, too, I entered a pact with a devil. He wanted my soul and my honor, and then told me that he would keep Maelle free of the disease as long as I kept fighting and winning, so that I would have time to search for a cure. After months, every sage told me that there was no cure, so I could just keep on fighting forever". "When in my land there was noone left to fight, I left. I arrived here, but the challenges proved much harder. I spared no dirty trick to win, but yet I could barely gain a few days to Maelle. In the end, I reached the point where one more loss would mean the death of my daughter - and probably mine, too. The fiend appeared to tell me so right after a fight I had with the noble Nikodemus. Upon hearing it, I fell crying, and the noble warrior who had just defeated me came to my help". "We have talked for long, and as we were talking more warriors of Honor came to that place. When the fiend appeared again, I threw my kama at it, but it just passed through its body. Sabaron picked up the weapon, and Nikodemus attempted to cleanse it with his Redeeming Light, and when he did so, the steel crumbled to dust! And slowly, I felt free of the dark influence that clouded my mind and made me follow the ways of evil". "I realized that I should have let Maelle die, no matter how painful it was for me, because such was the will of Fate. And so, I refused to fight again, and she passed on, surely headed to Heaven to stay forever with her mother". "But I was still alive, and still bound by the infernal contract, or so I thought. My soul was doomed to serve the fiend in hell, and there was nothing I could do to change that. Nikodemus, though, had received an offer from the celestial Archangel: for his noble deeds, he would be taken to Heaven while he was still alive. The light warrior, and every day I bless him for his altruism, told me that he would pass this gift to me, so that when my time came and my soul went trapped in Hell, Archangel would come and free me". "I could not accept. I had already tried to cheat fate, and the result was horrible. I would not do it again - especially stealing Heaven from another! I decided to accept the consequences of my actions, to live my life, and see what will happen at the end of it. Nikodemus had a theory: he said that the pact stated that Maelle was to be kept alive as long as I fought, and that no mention of my soul was made here. Since the fiend didn't give you anything for your soul, he said, you are free to take it back". "I thought you could give me an answer, but you gave me another mystery instead".
