The Oath is a constraint on his being a paladin, and the language for Oath of Vengeance reads, in part, "<strong>By Any Means Necessary.</strong> My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes." Here, Dent's qualm is returning to combat knowing he's severely injured and without magical resource.
The usually taciturn Dent continued his gimpy circuit back and forth across the room. He glanced at Aridha, nodded curtly, then eyed Tolan. "You imply you also could do with a rest. Fine. A fighting man admits when he needs a breather; the smart combatant knows his limits. Only FF and I seemed to favor short rest (if I forgot anyone in the short rest category or misstated anyone's vote, pipe up please). To clarify my vote for short rest, for me it boils down to Dent's Oath of Vengeance. The Oath is a constraint on his being a paladin, and the language for Oath of Vengeance reads, in part, "By Any Means Necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes." Here, Dent's qualm is returning to combat knowing he's severely injured and without magical resource. By my reckoning, if I want him to retain his paladin-ness, he needs to go after the KC regardless of being at 10/44 hp, having no healing, no spellcasting, and being out of paladin divine smites and channel divinity uses. That said, Wendy the Player is happy to do whatever the group wants. Long rest, short rest, no rest, whatevah. :) [/sblock]
