"If only I'd arrived a few seconds before, thinks Tommi, cursing to himself. He knows that he loathes this creature, even though he doesn't understand it. Tommi sees Lionel in the corridor with his crossbow, and hopes that the gnoll's evil cackling distracts it from noticing the sound of his friend. Tommi tastes the power of necromancy in the air, not knowing that ozone is a byproduct of so much magic. Tommi takes his fingers from his lips, and with his fingers, signals to Lionel that he is going to move in so that Lionel can catch the target distracted. The practiced signs among rogues, taught to the two of them at the same time when they were boys and Tommi's mother was in her workshop, are clearly understood, even though Lionel has yet to see the target. When he's close, Tommi lunges forward, past the foul, animated thing the gnoll has just created, and up to the gnoll. He stabs with Gutter, but in his excitement he is unable to make a solid connection. That's fine, he thinks. The gnoll is looking at me, and not Lionel. [ooc]Okay, I'm hoping for a surprise round here, and hoping it might accomplish something. I've suggested a silent Thieves' cant for communication with Lionel. Move as needed up to the gnoll (30', or if it's further away, he can use his bonus action and Dash.) Attack with Gutter. 1d20+6=13. Probably a miss, but if not then 1d6+3=6 points damage. This means Tommi's presence can let Lionel Sneak attack, possibly in this round. If it is a surprise, there will be no response (and no shield spell!). If not, Tommi's staying there even if he has movement left. He's keeping his reaction:

if it's not a surprise, and someone hits him, he can half the damage.
if it is a surprise, or if it's not and he's not hit, he has the option to skirmish himself up to 15' away after the enemy turn (assuming Lionel has had his shot).
[/ooc]
