Voices are kept low, but the tone is urgent and it seems that there is some disagreement as to how to proceed. The man with the dogs doesn't say much, although the old woman glances in his direction from time to time. It is the newcomer, the young woman, who sems to be causing the most consternation. Several times she seems to be urging the old woman to a course of action, and several times the old woman seems to refuse.Eventually the old woman waves the rest away, and turns back to Casparan. She moves forwards about 10 feet, pushing through the ring of people around her and bringing her to within about 50 feet of Casparan. She beckons for Casparan to do likewise. Meanwhile the rest of the farmers wait behind her in a loose line."Come a little closer. I will not negotiate with you while your face is hidden in darkness. I will ask you some questions, and you will answer them honestly. You will not try and hide your thoughts from me. Then I can be sure that you do not lie."</blockquote>
