Drutha is able to show the way to the road easily enough -- just keep the mountains to your right but aim to get a little farther away as you go... Ripnek scouts ahead and it takes at most forty minutes before he sees the long, smooth track of snow that marks the road. Turning to follow the road is also straightforward. If you want to keep your tracks off the actual surface you still need to stay within about 60' to see the unnaturally smooth area of the snow. But it's an easy landmark -- clearly visible so long as you stay within sight. Nert does his best with your backtrail, but it's impossible to hide the fact that there was some disturbance. At least it shouldn't be obvious who passed. The land is generally flat and grassy. Overall perhaps you'd call it rolling, but that's on a pretty large scale. In terms of the land immediately around you, any small rise or depression is pretty unusual. Mostly you're just passing through knee-high grass that's gone dormant for the season. The air stays cold, but in your couple hours of travel, doesn't get any worse at least. And that brings us to 10 PM, and square G-9, about a half-hour short of your planned ambush site. Ripnek sees a large mound of earth a hundred yards ahead and maybe thirty yards to the side of the road. It's definitely unusual, perhaps not natural, and the road curves slightly to pass by it instead of going through it. It's about fifty yards long and up to twenty feet high. On the side facing the road, hidden from direct view from your position by a fold in the mound, you see the flickering glow of firelight against the surrounding terrain. A moment's pause and you can hear voices as well, though you'll have to get closer to identify them. [ooc]If at some point you decide to investigate the fire/voices closely, whoever goes please make a Stealth roll. (The difficulty will depend on who's there and how alert they are to intruders.)[/ooc]
