Ice knife was orginally a conjuration spell. Should it be changed to evocation now because it doe damage?

Any ideas why the elemental orb spells from Tome & Blood got switched from Evocation to Conjuration in the miniatures handbook?

Look to the definitions of the spell schools in the SRD and Players Handbook for clues. Spells that do damage are not all evocations. There might be other reasons to change the school, but just because it does damage would not be one.

As to why tha change on the lesser orbs ...well, one part of the 3.5 revisions involved re-balancing the spell schools so that, at least in theory, all were equally useful as specialist choices.

What makes me crazy is that the Miniatures Handbook only included spells up to 5th level. Presumably, the presence of "Lesser X Orb" implies the existence of "X Orb". Since those spells were not listed, that further implies that the "X Orb" spells are now 6th level or higher.

Ice knife is absolutely conjuration. it conjures an actual object (a knife made of para-elemental ice). The damage is partly physical.

By the way, the general philosophy regarding using 3.0 stuff with 3.5 is:

1) the changes are prioritized based on "importance" -- how much a need there is for a change.

2) If something has not been changed (yet), WotC either feels it does not need to be changed at all, or that it is much less important than other things.

3) If something that has not been changed seems, to any DM, to need a change, that DM is free to make whatever change(s) necessary.

In other words, don't worry too much about stuff they haven't changed, unless *you* see some need to make a change. Trying to second-guess "will they change this, too" is a waste of your time and energy.
