Icewind Dale II -- any good?

I've installed this game, tried a few parties out, but never got far past the Prologue.

Is this game any good? I'm having trouble getting into it, but I know some games start off slow and get a lot better later.

I found it much more frustrating than the first. It's been a long time since I played it (I came to the US to work for a year and didn't bring it with me) but I think I'd got to the 2nd chapter and it was starting to get a little better.

I liked it.

Try this party:

Fighter
Fighter
Cleric
Cleric
Rogue
Wizard

One of your two fighters should have a high INT to take advantage of social skills and have a decent CHA and that guy is going to be your party leader. Do not make him a paladin. I actually got by with a paladin (mistake) and a drow bard (mistake), but the party I put out for you should cut through the hard encounters.

There were some great walk-through sites back when I was playing this. It was a long time ago, and my old laptop wasn't powerful enough to handle the final battle -- something got jammed -- but the game was kinda fun, if also kinda linear.

I had a VERY good experience with a Bard. Their songs get quite strong later on, even after the patch.

Cheers, -- N
