Ideas for Meepo?

Moe Ronalds

First Post
My group is nearing the end of the sunless citadel. They managed to wipe out all of the Kobolds and Goblins by starting a huge battle between the two groups. Meepo, however, escaped into the woods. While he was their guide, one of the party members (the son of a dark deity. This makes no purpose stat-wise due to the weakness of the god at the time of the characters birth) made him a mace out of the bones of a skeleton that seriously pissed the character off (basically it's a skull attached to a femur). I'm planning for this weapon to beacon Meepo over to the dark god (the main baddie of the campaign) and turn him into a Cleric of him(the dark god). However, I need ideas for how I can make Meepo a seriously evil Spell-casting type without just making him a run-of-the-mill necromancer (mmm... vanilla...). The god is the god of taint, if that helps. Also, any ideas for enchantments I could add to Meepo's Bone-mace of badass would be helpful too. :)

a.) Go Wizard specialized in Necromancy, and give him levels of the Palemaster prestige class.

b.) Take levels of Wizard and Cleric, and give him levels in the True Necromancer prestige class.

c.) Go Cleric, with Spell Focus/Greater Spell Focus Necromancy, and use inflict spells, and other Necromancy spells that don't have to do with summoning undead. It fits the whole "taint" portfolio the god has. Well to me it does! :D

Er, is this a joke (I'm dense) or was my post vague? In case it's the second one, just let me re-say that by not a run-of-the-mill necromancer I didn't want him to be a nercromancer at all, which seems to be the default bad-spell-casting-guy.

All right... You want to go along with something that's not 'Necromancer', in the animating dead/evil whatnot. How about these:

1) Blight Magic. Not sure who puts it out, but basicly, it's like the Blighter from MotW; pollution magic that corrupts the user, as well as the land around it. I realize you don't want to use necromancers/undead, but the Blight Mage can animate dead who are fused with some really nasty stuff, in regards to elements (Zombies with the tainted element of fire set people on fire by touch, Skeletons infused with Ice offers damage reduction 5/+1 and chill touch, Dust offers... something, all sorts of elements).

2) Illusionist. Illusions used to twist and taunt and tease the party, really Get Into Their Heads. Imagine an Obscuring Mist, followed by dancing lights, and Minor illusions, looking like ghosts and monsters coming out of the mist to get them.

3) Enchanter. From behind the scenes, Meepo is getting friends to help him, if not, from a distance, manipulating the party.

Necromancy deals with Negative Energy. Anything caused by that could be useful, and not just animating dead.

4) Cleric with Trickery and some other domain.

As for Meepo's Mace o' Badass, I'd suggest either Screamng (Sonic) or Corrosive (Acid) damage. The former would wither about the mace, making moans and screams, or shrieks as it struck. The latter would weep acid, in little droplets (Or mabe it looks like blood?). Or Meepo could convert it over to a Rod or Wand, instead of a mace.

Make him a crazy lil guy. You could make him a transmuter, and he's always changing stuff into something else, and he doesn't remember he did it. He always thinks someone else did it, and they are after him.

I think it was you being vague, or me misuderstanding you.

Gotta agree with Blight Magic. Great sourcebook for 'different' type of evil magic from Mystic Eye Games.

Another thought might be to just have him be a Chaos mage using Mongoose supplement.

Of course he could just be a real mean druid too. No need to make him an arcane spellcaster after all, especially if he's serving a deity.

Also, for the Mace o' Badass, might I suggest Sean K. Reynold's 'Lesser Bane'?

Basicly, it's a +2d6 damage to certain creature, for just +1 bonus. The reason he changed it was becuase it costs a +2 (As much as +2d6 of energy damage, which can effect everything), and the DR only effects those creatures, rarely do they have anything over +3. So, if a number of the PCs in the group is of a certain race, he could have a +1 Lesser Bane. :)

You could turn him into a mind mage or a psionocist. The little guy with the iron will who takes over others to do his work. If he now has to survive on his own, this could be how he grows a back bone.

Or just go Cleric. Spiritual leadership could gain him alot of allies, and could even work with the above. Imagine ogres with all the food they could eat, or intelligent undead that are given a source of negative energy. They'ed love him.

Or turn him into the familliar of an even bigger bad guy, as fore shadowing. A few levels os Sorcerer, 10-15 levels of familiar abilities. The SR would really mess with the PC's.

Being that your guy is a god of Taint, why not use the Taint rules from OA?

Basically, they make it to that creatures can become "Tainted," with various effects that will eventually kill the character if they accumulate enough taint points. Alternatively, they can embrace the taint, and haress it to gain powers.

Oriental Adventures features fightery and magey prestige class for tainted characters, as well as a template for a character that has become transformed by the taint into an Akutenshi ("Servant of Evil"). there is another more powerful template that can be layered onto that for the more powerful kind, but I don't remember what its called. Both templates have an ability menu for variety (i.e. pick 1d4+1 of the following powers). The book also has some nice tainty spells and magical items.

The fightery pres class allows characters to avoid all harmful effects of taint, and they eventually get monk attack progression except for their regular BAB, can eventually add half their taint score (varies, but if you make Meepo an Akutenshi, its (cha/2)+1) to their attack rolls, and at L10 get DR 10/+1.

The magey one can cast spells with his tainted blood as a material component, and is kinda sorceror-like, but get new levels early like a wiz. A char can trade in any spellcaster level for a level in this class, allowing him to add that spell list to his list in this class, which is somewhat limited.

The Akutenshi can have some cool powers as well, like a fear aura, up to 8 arms, wings, counting levels of the fighter pres class as "+1 spellcaster level" for the magey one, gaze attacks, claw attacks, armor, etc.

All and all, I really like Taint, although you should prolly allow it to be removed with spells, as it cannot in OA.

Frankly, I'm shocked. I always thought of myself as a rather nice little fella.

But, if I were to be evil, I'd probably go the enchanter route. The gals especially tend to think I'm the cutest thing since sliced bread, so it wouldn't be terribly hard to dominatethem.

Hmm...actually, I think I'm gonna go try to dominate Lidda. She's already got the kinky leather bondage outfit.
