Not imagining what they look like, per se, but rather holding a space for this disembodied person that you're speaking with. If the person is in the vehicle with you then you don't have to hold them in your brain the same way, making it less distracting.And frankly, I feel that's actually quite valid. I know from experience that part of my brain is sort-of outside the vehicle when I'm on the phone in a way that's not true if I'm talking to myself, talking to someone else who's there, listening to a podcast or book or music, etc. Mind you, most of those other things do tie up some brain that might well be making me a worse driver, but talking on the phone is definitely different. At least for me.</blockquote>
