There's something to be said for not making it too easy for folks to blot out that which they don't like. If you make it too easy to filter out stuff, you tend to break the community down into little isolated pockets and individuals. When allowed to do so, people do tend to put blinders on themselves. This rarely helps anything, and in fect runs contrary to much of the purpose of having a site like this - transfer of information and ideas. So it seems unwise to give people extra special efficient blinders. </p><p></p><p>There's also some of that was in that rant. It just <em>isn't that hard</em> to not bother with threads you feel are extraneous. Folks in general want the bloody world handed to them on a silver platter - They want instant gratification and perfect tailoring to personal wants. When the whole thing is free, and operates mostly on the backs of volunteers, it seems pretty darned... selfish, I guess, to keep asking for more and more fiddling little amenities.</p></blockquote><p></p>
