Illumian as a template

I was looking at the Illumians today and thinking "Wow. This race really sucks." Then I thought that instead of having Illumains as a singular race, why not make it a template?

There'd be absolutely no work in turning it into a template, considering that's esstentially what it already is. Just pick a combination of words, add your conditional save modifiers, and go.

Has anyone else done this? Any advice?

It certainly makes more sense as a magical template added to a base race, than as a separate race of folks. FYI - Illumians were about the worst race I had seen in a while. They just seemed like a feeble attempt to try to make a 'human subrace' to fill some space in a book devoted to 'humankind'.

That being said, I think I could buy into the concept with a template instead of a separate race.

What was their LA? Could you make the "race" just a racial feat instead?

Interesting. I guess you could do the same thing with Elans (XPH).

I like that idea a lot. I might adapt that for my near-human races.
