Illusiary Questions

There are no questions here. You must be mistaken.

1 - What, if any, are the limitations on the Alarm spell? Will it go off if the area is traversed by an invisible creature? If placed outdoors, is it likely to go off every 5 minutes as a chipmunk passes through the area?

2 - Is there anything preventing placing a the Permanant Image above a battlefield, with an image of a perfectly normal sky? That anyone could hide above and cast spells through (with a noisy enough battlefield it would be unlikely to hear the casting voice)?

3 - <I disbelieve>

Presumably alarm would be triggered by invisible creatures. It's only prohibition is on ethereal or astral creatures.

PHB: "Figments [such as permanent image, et. al] cannot make something seem to be something else." That is, they cannot disguise or hide existing objects or creatures. For that, you would need a Glamer (such as invisibility or screen).

1 - See above for the illusions answer. If a chipmonk is tiny or larger, then yes, it will trigger the alarm.
2 - The spell has a fairly limited area, so it would be 'kinda obvious' (at the edges in case of the sky, you can't have it look perfect from every angle if it is so much closer) and thus quickly be disbelieved, after this flaw has been spotted, I suppose. Other than that, of course you can put up illusionary walls and look through, since you know they are illusory, they are translucent for you.
3 - You fail.

Theoretically, you could make it look like normal sky- but it wouldn't match up with the actual sky at all. People would almost definitely notice that that cloud up there seems to have an extremely distinct corner, and half of that other cloud just disappeared...

Basically, there are much easier ways to go about doing that. Invisibility is one of them.
