Ilshara: Lands Of Exile

If you check out my website, you will find that I have revised my campaign setting, Ilshara: Lands of Exile - click on the link under the sig below!

Not only is a new Hex map (in the old Mystara style) up, but the Gazetteer and the overall setting have been revisited, making this as system-neutral as possible.

I have also edited it some more, cleaned up the presentation (I have removed the annoying background from the main body and rejustified all columns for cleaner look). I have fixed some errors as well.

Yes, I have retained some mention of "classes" and "levels," especially within the NPC descriptions, but this is about as specific as I get. Encounter tables are presented either as a d20 or % roll. Suggestions are now made on how to consider translating between different games.

As always, I offer this as a free online resource - even if you're quite happy with your own current setting give it a look as a resource setting.

The setting does contain its own internalized rules for use of Psionics -- if you hate the concept, feel free to simply amputate them (they are meant to be exceedingly rare in any case!).

In the near future I will be:

1. Re-editing the new Hex Map to smooth and define coastlines and to replace the hex rivers with more natural representations.

2. Finishing a better, single PDF map of the City of Jendar to finish replacing the Map Folio (which is still there as it has good quadrant maps of the city).

In the longer run I'd like to:

1. Produce (on the resource page) several adventure paths for the setting, stated generally enough to be useful to AD&D, C&C, BFRPG etc.

2. Accept and post contributions for the setting by any who would like to contribute.

Please check it all out and let me know your thoughts.

IF YOU LIKE GOOD SETTINGS, ESPECIALLY ONES THAT PROVIDE MORE "FLUFF" THAN "CRUNCH," CHECK THIS OUT! :)

Sincerely,

Not sure if you know this, but the download link for your map is an html download. Shouldn't it be a bmp or jpg?

As a PDF file downloaded it can be printed at full size - a bmp or jpeg would lose a lot. I can certainly put up a separated jpeg image for it as well, but I find this works well - if someone wants a small photo-file of any section, most pdf readers have area selector tools.

Question for you...what did you use to make the HEX map? Was it some freeware/shareware program that can be downloaded. I'm working on my own homebrew campaign (see link in sig.) and have been looking for a good way to do the maps.

I did indeed use a shareware program -- AKS Hexmapper, can find it here:

You have to custom the number of hexes - the initial is very small. I then ported a basic map over to Paint for additional work, and ultimately I used NeroSnap photo tools to adjust colors (the hexmapper is brighter than I like).

Hope that helps! :)
