I'm now the overlord of EVIL!!! (The World's Biggest Dungeon! Now with mini-review!)

First Post
I just got "The World's Biggest Dungeon", and have to say:

This looks like a hell of a ride.

It comes with a 840 page hardback (nice binding by the way) and 16 color poster maps. It also comes with free character sheet booklet (you can photocopy the pages for use. normally $4.50), two minis (knight and rogue), a set of dice, and two catalogs (dice and mini).

The hardback seems to have a great sense of humor in some areas, but since I just got it today, I'm not going to be able to tell you much about it yet.

The book is crisp black text with enough white space to keep you form going blind reading it, and has a nice (not great, but hey) collection of art in it. The text font is small, but readable. The format seems consistant for information and use.

I'm gonna kill be some characters! I'm gonna kill be some characters! I'm gonna kill be some characters!

Yay!

And it only cost me $106.00 :D

Good Gawd!

When did that thing come out? I can't wait for this deployment to end, so I can visit my FLGS and spend all the money I've saved. *Evil Grin* "The kid can pay her own way through college."

I can give a review on it up to the end of section A:

It rocks. Like a diamond. Seriously.

I know when I make a bad purchase. Remember the map-folio 2? That was crud. WLD, on the other hand, IS the greatest!

First, it has encounters listed for every room. Good ones, with tactics and personality traits. It also has quick room desriptors (explained at the beginning of the book) such as 'cursed' or 'safe' that modify certain things in the area.

Also, room tend to list things that might happen if a creature in room XXX hears the characters bumbling around or see the light of thier lamps. Nothing like having every stirge in a five room radius coming in to see who's for dinner! :D

(Mnnnnn... Half-elven wizard! What a treat! Gimmie!)

Anyway, the area has a plotline and major NPMs (Non player Monster) that allow you to roll play some sections, build alliances, and even learn about the back story.

Oh, and this thing ain't a cake-walk. Not even for tactical players (you know who you are). This thing can get you killed unless you understand the concept of 'RUN AWAY!'. Then again, that can get you killed in places too.

Lot's of secret doors and traps. Oh... The wonderful traps...

I just get squishy thinking about it!

Anyway, I'm reading section 'B' now. Later,
John

So I have to ask... how port-able is this? I mean, can I just yoink sections of it and place it in another world? I ask because I'm starting an Eberron game soon, and need some dungeons for them to explore once they embark on their main quest... would this work for that, or should my $100 go elsewhere?

You can split it into about 15-16 chunks. I think it's a great buy...

Absolutely. The WLD, while it's got some linking between Regions, was written specifically to be modular. :)

Is jim up yet? Or is he going to sleep in all day?

He's playing, isn't he? He's run off into the dungeon and ain't coming back for the rest of the year.

You just missed him, unless you mean Jim Pinto ;)

I got email from my FLGS that this arrived yesterday so I'm going to check it out today or tomorrow.
