I'm playing a half-elf!

I like the concept of the half-elf. Lots of role-playing potential there. But it IS the weakest race there is. Finally, I just broke down and did it - I made a half-elf. I like the character a lot but she would be more pwerful as an elf or a human.

Here's my question.

By playing a half-elf, do I forever immunize myself against any and all accusations of being a min-maxer, regardless of how much min-maxing I do AFTER I pick half-elf as a race.

Discuss.

Of course not. Taking a single choice of infinite power completely negates any and all suboptimal choices you have made.

For example: to become a Spelldancer you need to be a Wizard with maxxed out Perform Skill and Mobility. These are completely useless options, and until you start Spelldancing make your character very weak. Once you get the Spelldancer up and running, however, you get access to a very simple recursive unlimited ability score loop.

So despite the fact that your character took many options which suck - the whole is munchkin and broken. The total is what is broken - not the individual pieces. Otherwise people could build Simulacrum Factories and then claim exemption from siapproval because of the fact that they cast Summon Monster spells sometimes in combat.

Uh...what's wrong with casting Summon Monsters in combat? While the low level ones suck horribly, the high level ones rock. Fiendish Girallons, Celestial Dire Bears, Magma paraelementals that can stomp any fighter flat...

Back to the topic, it does proof you a little bit against min/maxing claims. You might be able to say, "But I'm a Half-Elf!" whenever you make some broken combo. However, sheer cheesiness like the Spelldancer shouldn't be tolerated.

So it does provide some immunization, but not total.
