Image problems

bloodymage

House Ruler
I know, I know...cut the hair and shave the beard! :D

Not what I'm talking about, of course. Hopped over to ENWorld today and noticed the Bloody Mage was an ugly X instead of her normal beautiful self. I fiddled around and couldn't get her back. What's up? She's there and then she's not?

I saw a note from PirateCat recently about restricting image size to no larger than 200 pixels. Just to make sure, I went and checked out his image size and re-did mine to conform. My image was 167x200 pixels and looked very fine below my posts. Now all I have is a long line of vB code that should work, but it doesn't.

Help! :(

First, vBulletin sometimes gets confused with very long URLs. See if you can chop the filename down a bit.

Second, try using HTML instead of VBcode.

Third, I think your ISP doesn't allow external links.

Well, let's find out if it's something to do with the sig, or the hosting site.

Hummph. There is no reason for her not to work. What's especially odd is that I'm not getting a red x... I just get the text.

I went to Makeashorterlink.com and typed in your url. Let's try that.

Well, that at least knows its a graphic, even if it isn't working.

And if we just link it?

Nope. Too long, maybe, or perhaps the hosting company restricted linking access. Nothing has changed on our end, as far as I know.

I think the easiest thing to do is to try and host it elsewhere, then link to that!

I think that when vBulletin parses VBcode tags containing URLs, it gets confused when the URL wraps over two or more lines and inserts extraneous spaces. If you use the HTML <img> tag instead, this doesn't happen.

OK. I just tried HTML with the result you all see now...a broken graphic with the URL displayed!

What baffles me is that the graphic was *poof* gone. In trying to fix it, I ended up with a much longer URL than before. There was no problem with hosting on msn or having to be signed in. The image is fine on the other two sites I frequent and it's linked to the same location.

I'm going to try copying the link from one of those sites, That should restore my profile here to its original state. Of course, that's the state it was in when it went *poof*!

Thanks for all the help. I'll keep playing with it.
