At higher levels they can start to make more of a difference in the great scheme of things by getting involved with the movers and shakers, and not just going for wealth, power and prestige. At the highest levels, I find PCs either have honour and many good or lawfully aligned allies or they are stupidly rich and have a thousand daggers at their back.PCs, however, aren't the only stars of the show. They may be assigned to a task, then get diverted and when they try to return, the quests been completed.
