These are from Dungeon #100. Note that the improved combat reflexes feat is not the same feat from the ELH. Anyways, the writeups of these feats have some wonkyness goin' on in them. Improved Combat Reflexes There are two wierd things going on here. First, it does not contain the Special line stating that a fighter can select the feat as one of his fighter bonus feats, even though the Greater Combat Reflexes feat does indeed allow such a thing, and even though this feat is a prerequisite of the Greater Combat Reflexes feat. Second, it states the following... "For any given opportunity in melee combat, you can make two attacks of opportunity. The second attack is at a –5 penalty, just like your second normal attack in any given round. You still cannot exceed your normal maximum number of attacks of opportunity in a round." Now, that quote in and of itself isn't wonky. But, check out the benefit of the Greater Combat Reflexes feat... "For any given opportunity in melee combat, you can make two attacks of opportunity. The second attack is at a –5 penalty, just like your second normal attack in any given round. You still cannot exceed your normal maximum number of attacks of opportunity in a round." Notice the wonkyness? The benefits are indentical. As written, the only benefit to Greater Combat Reflexes is the virtue that it can be selected as a fighter bonus feat. That's it. Now, here's my theory... 1) Improved Combat Reflexes is supposed to include the Special line, thereby allowing it to be selected as a fighter bonus feat. This only seems logical, and I can't come up with any reason at all that it shouldn't be. 2) Greater Combat Reflexes is supposed to allow a third attack, in addition to the second attack granted by the Improved Combat Reflexes feat, but this third attack suffers a -10 penalty. What do y'all think?
