Improved School Specialization

Kyros Pyralis

First Post
I have been looking for a variant rule that I have seen which allows Wizards to specialize even further by sacrificing another school. This is similar to the Red Wizard's ability, Enhanced Specialization. The result is one less general spell slot and two additional specialist school spell slots (netting one more spell per day).

If anyone else remebers this variant and could cite it, I would be most appreciative.

It's the Focused Specialist from Complete Mage :)

Replaces: You lose one spell slot from each level of wizard spells you can cast. If you later gain the ability to cast higher level wizard spells, you lose one spell slot from each new level of spells you can cast.
You must also choose another prohibited school of magic, which can't be divination.

Benefit: You can prepare two additional spells of your specialty school per spell level each day. These extra spells are in addition to those normally granted to a specialist wizard. This benefit doesn't apply to spells gained from classes other than wizard.

Best variants are Conjurer (for the awesome Abrupt Jaunt ACF and of course "Conjuration = battlefield control" for the win), and Transmuter (because there are tons of amazing Transmutation spells).

I may be mistaken, but I think the Incantrix PRC had the pc losing another school too. Trade off is more feats I think.

Thanks,
Rich

There's also the Changeling racial substitution level that lets you "dual-specialize", although to my mind it's not as good as Focused Specialist.
