In the Dark Sun setting, only the Material Plane, the Ethereal Plane, and the Shadowfell Plane exist. The 2e splatbooks for Dark Sun mention the "Gray" and the "Black". The Gray is an underworld for the dead, and the Black was the plane of shadow, once a source for illusion magic that no longer exists. In 4e and 5e both of these concepts merged to form the Shadowfell. But Gray and Black can still be useful terms, where the ghosts of the dead inhabit decaying memories of their lives, whence the Gray is the Shallow Shadowfell that overlaps or border the Material Plane, while the Black is the Deep Shadowfell that disconnects from the Material Plane. Note how the Positive Influence from the Plane of Positive Energy perfuses part of the Material Plane. Oppositely the Negative Influence unravels part of the Material Plane. Dark Sun refers to these aspects as the "Positive Material Plane" relating to preserving and the "Negative Material Plane" relating to defiling, respectively. When the cosmic force Clerics of Dark Sun utilize Positivity, such as for healing, they access the Positive Material Plane directly, without other planes. Likewise when they utilize Negativity, they access the Negative Material Plane directly. Altho there is a Shadowfell, there is no Feywild in Dark Sun. Perhaps the imbalance from the prevailing of Negative Material Plane has shut off access to the Positive Ethereal of the Feywild?
