To get back on topic Back on topic. IMHO HiPS is a Supernatural ability; meaning it is magical, but not a spell. Hiding is a form of concealment. Therefore HiPS is a form of magical concealment. Supernatual abilities do not function in anti-magic area, so and anti-magic spell would work. The magical ability uses exsiting shadows to grant enough concealment to make a hide check, and See Invis would not let you see someone using an illusion or magical fog for concealment. Therefore I would rule that HiPS works against See Invis. Despite what people are saying HiPS is not the same as Hide, as Hide is not a magical ability. Remember that the hide check would not be possible if it were not for the magical concealment. True seeing reveals magical concealment. The real sticky part is that shadow is a poorly defined term in the HiPS description. I say Shadow and darkness are not necessarily the same. If you are standing in the shadow of a cliff or large castle in the late afternoon on a sunny day even humans can see fully but you are in shadow. Does a heavy overcast day have no shadows or all shadows, since there is no direct sunlight? Also just because you have darkvision doesn't mean nothing is shadowy. If you have 60ft dark vision and someone is 70ft away that person apears shadowy. Here is how I would rule; HiPS can be used in Cast shadows or areas that appear Shadowy to normal vision. Eventhoug areas are shadowy, dark or clear to people with darkvision or lowlight vision HiPS is Magical hiding and is not revealed by that type of vision.
