After some additional search, I stumbled across some fragments that describe four Time Gates that exist in Faerûn. The descriptions are more or less accurate, leaving space for the DM to flesh everything out. The gates are very old, possibly older than the first Sarrukh empires (?).
While these gates seem to allow access to any point in time the user can imagine, it does not need to be precise. Maybe the precise arrival at a certain point of time works similar to the Teleport spell (or depends on a knowledge - history check, made by the person who activated the gate)... I am also thinking about the option that due to malfunctions or magic effects each gate is now linked to a certain event or point in time, thus allowing only four destinations...
Some of these events could be:
- Year of the Sundered Web (Netheril's fall), -339 DR
- Year of Shadows, 1358 DR
- the Tearfall, ca. -31000 DR
- first rage of the dragons, -25500 DR
- the Sundering, ca. -17600 DR
Other ideas are welcome!
Hmm, creating a NEW Time Gate would certainly involve epic magic, and the list of time-related spells is a good source
