Incorporeality questions

Vivictus

First Post
Hello, looking for answers to a couple questions here that I am having trouble finding the answer to...

1. If two incorporeal creatures fight each other, is there still a miss chance to touch each other or not? I know if spells are cast then it still applies. Weapon attacks aren't affected cuz they can't use them, except ghost touch anyway.

2. If a cleric tries to use a cure spell to affect an incorporeal creature, that requires "touch". Can the cleric do this or is there a 50% miss chance or what?

I am starting my Ghostwalk campaign tonight so any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I don't have Ghostwalk, so I don't know if that book changes anything. But according to the MM, both incorporeal creatures are ethereal - even if manifested, so they would use their ethereal AC for defense with no miss chance.
  2. I've had this problem crop up in my campaign last year, and I asked the same question - http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24293. It turns out that the Sage says there is a miss chance because the spell originates from a corporeal source (the cleric's hand).

Hope this helps. :)

Here's a quote about spells being cast on incorporeal creatures...

"even when struck by magic or magic weapons, an incorporeal creature has a 50% chance to ignore any DAMAGE from a corporeal source -- except for a force effect, such as magic missile, or damage inflicted by a ghost touch weapon."

It states "damage" from a corporeal source. But, the fact that corporeal creatures can't touch incorporeal ones normally does make me wonder. But, at the same time, if a wizard cast a touch based "damaging" spell, it would get the 50% miss chance. Hmm, I think I will just make it so the spell can affect the incorporeal creature, but there's a 50% miss chance whether it's damaging or not, unless it's a force effect.
