Instead of Warlord, how about "Brigadier General"?

The only way you will get another name for warlord in this stage is to rename it yourself. There is no point in making posts like this.

After all, it makes about as much sense for a 1st level character as "Warlord."

I prefer "Emperor", myself. Just picture it: a 1st level party of a fighter, cleric, wizard, and emperor. Sweeeeet!

Other than to voice displeasure.

I agree that it's unlikely that a name change would be considered at this point, but you never know. Apparently the designers are still making changes to the core rules.

I prefer "General" myself. That way the character can get a sense of accomplishment from picking up those gold stars....

Nah, that just feels a little to general for my tastes.

Judging from blogs and playtest reports, I don't think ANYTHING is set in stone yet.

Wizards could easily rename the Warlord class at any time before the books are sent to the printers. After all it's just a "find and replace" word substitution, and wouldn't affect any actual rules.

With the amount of debate/dislike generated by "Warlord" and how easy it would be to rename it, I'm sure they're considering alternatives.

I prefer 'man' myself. That way warlords can say "I'm the MAN!" and the rest of the party would chime in "Yes! He's the MAN!" Sometimes characters might say "MAN, I'm so wounded" and the man would go "I'm a MAN, not a nurse." And all the happy feminists would sing "What a MAN, what a MAN, what a mighty good MAN. --Yes he is!"

We could get another name for warlord, I'm sure the designers realize many are unhappy with the name, and the whole warlord/warlock/warwaa? is an issue.

The big problem is no one has come up with better. Seriously, check around, no one has voiced a name that really appeals to enough people to be considered.

Probably the closest is Marshall so far.
