Intelligent and willful magic items

A question about destroying a powerful, intelligent, and evil sword on the Rules forum prompted me to open this thread.

What good tales do you have about powerful and intelligent magic items taking over (or trying to take over) PCs' minds or changing their alignments? Or maybe just "swaying" or influencing a PC.

thOne of the characters has an intelligent sword, that has the duty to protect the elven people and an armor that was worn by the elven recon troops of the old realm of the elves.

His sword is rather quick to anger and often tries to usurp control when he meets traitors to the elven realm. The sword is a little arrogant and proud. Once he held another intelligent sword Both weapons knew each other and there was a shouting match in his mind as each one was bragging about his wearer´s virtue and prowess.
The armor often offers friendly advice how to do the job more "efficiently".

He gets a little bit worried every time there is some chitchat in the back of his mind. Good that the sword and the armor see stuff differently in many matters.

Visiting his dreams the group found out that both can manifest as characters in his dreams and are sometimes playing cards with him. Needless to say they cheat like professional gamblers.
