Great idea - I might have to take it one step further and make an intelligent book an NPC sage.

The Grimoire tells you that it can grant you power, for a price. It
also will give you "advice."

The more you listen to his advice, the more EVIL you
become.

Ask it about its powers. First it asks for a drop of your blood
on its pages. If you do so, you get the spell.
For the next power, he needs you to sell one of your companions into
slavery (to devil) and get the spell.
Finally the last task is to KILL one of your companions. Once they're dead talk to the book again to get the spell.

I like the idea of a seductive female voice coming from the book: "Come on, big boy... flip through my pages. In fact, rub your face on them- they're soft. Ooh, I bet you'd like some of the pictures inside of me... I'll never tell, nobody needs to know; we'll keep it just between you and me. And why don't you slip me under your pillow before bed tonight?"

Anger of Angels has the statted up Agrippa - a demon bound into the shape of a book. I used it in an adventure. Freaked the heck out of the players. Had them arguing over attacking the book.
