Prologue In the blackness of space high above the planet Coruscant, an Imperial Star Destroyer takes up its station. Inside the ships great hangar bay stormtroopers stand in formation. An officer stands at the formation's front, stoically attempting to hide his fear as a small shuttle lands. A gaunt man wearing an impeccable grey fleet uniform exits the shuttle. His face bears a fierce expression, his sharp hawk- like eyes observing all around him. The destroyer's captain strides forward to salute. "Lord Tarkin, this is a surprise, we..we expected Lord Vader..." Moff Tarkin raises his hand in a gesture of silence, and begins walking to the lift at the other end of the bay. The captain quickly falls in behind. "I understand Captain Renn," Tarkin replies, noting the captain's unease, "but there has been a change of plans." The Moff's eyes concentrate on the ranks of stormtroopers as he walks, "as of this moment your command shall report to me." Captain Renn nods, thoughts racing through his mind. "You needn't worry Captain," Tarkin continues, "this is no reflection upon yourself. The Emperor himself has requested Lord Vader's presence on Coruscant. His considerable talents are required at other tasks." "Yes..yes Lord Tarkin.." the Captain stammers. "It is my considered opinion," Tarkin says, turning to view his inferior, "that the Jedi Order is broken forever. They shall no longer threaten the stability of the galaxy. However, Lord Vader is a thorough man." The older man's tone is icy, clipped and precise. "But I believe now is the time to look toward the future not the past." Tarkin enters the lift, followed by Captain Renn. Just as the lift doors begin to close, a cruel smile splits the Moff's lips. "Of course Captain, there are always a few loose ends to tidy up."
