Interchangability of "Melee Attacks"?

(Note: I *know* I remember seeing a thread of this sort at one point, but Search isn't comming up with anything. If this a dead horese, send me to the Glue Factory link please )

I'm wondering how interchangable "melee attacks" are; for instance, "melee attacks" such as trip or disarm.
1. Is it possible to make a disarm attempt against all adjecant foes with Whirlwind Attack or make a trip as an Attack of Opportunity?
2. If you have multiple attacks from BAB could you make multiple disarm attempts?

My PnP group never has been good at Special Attacks

Since you asked nicely:

According to my SRD, yes:

SUNDER
You can use a melee attack with a slashing or bludgeoning weapon to strike a weapon or shield that your opponent is holding. If you’re attempting to sunder a weapon or shield, follow the steps outlined here.

Where does it mention sunder is a standard action (guessing that's where you are referring to)?
