Here they are greeted by a freakish manservant with hoofs who assures them the master is away. He discourages them from staying overnight but they are tired from their journey. "There is no escape, it will be dark soon, there is no escape", the manservant warns them. All to soon, the family will discover that the master is not away, instead he is dead and still living in a back room which opens out into a sandy shrine where several wives stand in stasis against crooked columns. Unfortunately, the family dog is slain by the master, the manservant's hand is burned off, a helpless rattlesnake is gunned down, and the wives argue amongst themselves while the master looks on, exasperated.</blockquote>
