I'm starting a Call of Cthulu game, tentatively on Thursday night, although that's subject to change depending on when people are interested in. Knowledge of the system is appreciated, but not required. For those not in the know: Call of Cthulu is a d100 game. Characters are generally average, non-exceptional people thrust into exceptional situations. Insanity, death, and far worse are the average fates of your characters. The game will not be fair, will not be balanced, and the DM will laugh at you if you expect otherwise. Expect things that go bump in the night, things that go "squelch" in the night, and madness and death. All I promise is that your characters will have some effect on the final outcome of the events you are a part of - their lives may very well be doomed, for all you know. Background You have come to Ithakabad, small town in northern Vermont, far away from most of civilization. What has drawn you here is the promise of work - in the middle of a recession, businesses in the town are apparently hiring, at a good pace. Rent is cheap, food is cheap, and the wages are good. There were some strange questions during the interview - they were unusually inquisitive about your family and friends, and almost seemed excited when they heard that you had lost touch with most of your family, although they made the appropriate sympathetic noises. Still, the pay is great, the rent is cheap, and if it's so terrible well, in a few years you'll have built up a nice bank account, and can get the hell out of the town. Character limitations: You may be any profession or background, from unskilled laborer to professional lawyer. The only limitations is that the character should have limited contact with their family or friends - single, no close immediate family, no close friends they chat with regularly. Whether this is by choice or circumstance is up to you. Notes: Stats will be rolled in order. This probably should be done prior to character creation, as you do not get to assign which stats go where. Why? This is Cthulu, you should get used to bastard DMing from the word go, and picking where your rolls go is far too forgiving. Alternate Background (18 and younger): You are a ward of the state. Either your parents are dead, or were deemed unfit to be parents. With your state's budget crisis, facilities were being shut down regularly, so when Ithakabad announced that an anonymous donor had given their orphanage more than enough money to handle newcomers, the state was grateful. The interview process was lengthy, and despite your lack of connections with your parents and foster families (if any) you were accepted readily, almost eagerly. It was nice to feel wanted, for once. Please roll using the forum roller. It's probably better to roll stats before creation, and I have no problem with you just posting to roll and then posting again with your character. As said previously, any two of them can be swapped (so you can swap STR and POW). Stat rolls are as follows: STR, CON, POW, DEX, APP: 3d6 SIZ, INT: 2d6+6 EDU: 3d6+3 Since I am a generous DM, you may move 3 points from one rolled stat to another, to help define your character better. No stat may drop below minimum, or go above maximum in possible rolls. Wealth is as per the page 34 chart (poke me and I'll just roll it for you) Age is minimum EDU+6 years (so minimum 12, assuming laughably bad rolls) If you need help with skill assignment, again I'd be more than happy to. Poke me with questions! Character sheet: http://www.mad-irishman.net/pubs/MI_CoCCharSheet40.pdf Dates and times are currently fluid, so post what works best for you! Will probably be a weeknight, and I'm in EST. P.S. If your roll is truly absurdly terrible I will allow a reroll, on case-by-case basis. You'd have to be talking something like multiple stats below 8 and nothing above 10 though.
