Concession Speech It is hard writing what you know is going to be a losing entry - and trust me I had barely written the second or third paragraph of this entry when I knew this to be true - but I had to buckle down and finish it. I liked the failed experiments of a mad wizard theme, and while I understood this would not bind the ingredients well thematically - there was the slightest glimmer of hope that relatively strong use of the ingredients individually might help me some. I think my "Devil in the Details" is one of my favorite ingredient uses ever. But overall I know this was just not up to usual par. Confession: I spent over 3 hours writing an entirely different entry and then scrapped it for the one I posted when I realized I had spent 3 hours had already written over 2000 words and had barely gotten past the "Hooks" section. If I had written it as intended I probably would have gotten to somewhere in the neighborhood of 15,000 words - and I was not even sure the idea was worth working that much on it - especially if it might just be rejected for length regardless of how good it was (and it wasn't all that good, trust me). Basically, the ingredients were really friggin' hard ya prick ;) - especially the oversight and the shoe horn (which are obvious if you read my entries) and I really struggled to get them all in there even with the loose approach I took. And yeah, don't ascribe any motives to me except doing my best to win my way. I tend to write grim n' gritty low magic kind of scenarios anyway - so I felt like I did not have to worry about pandering to the judge (even if I normally do not regardless) and my original entry (that I scrapped) was much grittier - but I would never throw a competition (it is not fair and really condescending to my opponent) and there is no way I would take this serious enough and be childish enough to try to stick it Wulf. The suggestion is just silly. If I did not trust him to judge my entries fairly I would not have signed up, or even asked him to join the esteemed company of the IRON DM judges. :) Anyway, congratgulations to Zappo. This is a well-earned victory as he clearly did better in this last round than I did. I'm not sure who will judge the summer tournament (if there even is one) - but I hope to be back to judging either in the Fall and/or a special Holiday newbie edition over on the new Rat Bastard boards. Thanks again to all my competitors and to Wulf for judging.
