Iron Heros

Is anyone else looking forward to the new Monte Cook creation "Iron Heros"?

I've been reading about it online and am very tempted to buy a copy when it comes out in about a week or so.

Alot of the changes to the system (low magic-high adventure, defense based combat system, ect.) appeal to me as a DM and as a player.

I like much of the flavour and appreciate the design. However, as I find out more, I am finding that the increase in tactical options, complexity and game elements is more than I expected or wanted. As such, I am going to wait to see exactly what the new changes entail.

very intrigued by the low-magic, high adventure idea ... basically the way that I DM anyway ... but I have been slightly put off some of the ideas in the design diaries, it gave me the impression that the designer was trying to make the PCs into uber powerful computer game like characters (or like d20 Exalted characters), I still will pick up the book and the pdf if I really like it and want to run it.

The idea that has been stated from the beginning is that Iron LoreHeroes characters should be about as capable of overcoming challenges as D&D characters of equal level. However, they will have this power inherently, rather than being dependent on magic items the way the D&D character is.

It seems like semantics to me. So I might not have any magic items but my BAB goes to +25? Hmm.

The big question that still hasn't been answered though is how a character completely devoid of magic items can handle any creature of a comparable CR. One of the examples brought up in the other thread was a spectre. How do the characters damage it? We really don't know yet.

This is one of those books I plan on grabbing the first day. Monte and Mike both create fun, solid books and this one looks more exciting (to me) than Arcana Unearthed did.
