War broke out, Llael was conquered by the Khadorans, Nyssor Winter Father (God of the Elves) has died and the Nys elves are now scattered and leaderless, the arrival of even more Skorne and a plethora of other plot advancements. Having both a mini game (Warmachine) and an RPG (Iron Kingdoms) set in the same world and the same time period is both a blessing and a curse. For a GM, each of the large scale mini releases (Prime, Escalation, Apotheosis, Hordes, Superiority) is a treasure trove of table top scenario's, plot hooks, well written prose and really spectacular illustrations, cleverly disguised as a mini expansion. The opposite side of that coin is that Privateer Press does a great job of advancing the background story their mini line, so that the line and the scenario's for mini combat remain fresh. But that is a much faster pace than most gaming groups (campaigns) can manage, meaning that future RPG books may not be as usable as players want. At times, the question around the speed of the advancing meta-plot has been a hot topic on the Privateer Press boards. I read somewhere that the 5-Fingers city book would be more meta-plot neutral, allowing it to be used by almost every campaign, but I haven't picked it up yet so I can't confirm that. Even so, Iron Kingdoms is one of the most outstanding RPG games I have ever had the pleasure to play. I have yet to be disappointed with anything that Privateer Press publishes.
