Iron PC: Does such a contest exist?

I was just thinking of how much I envy whoever holds the title of Iron DM. That title means quite a bit on these boards, in my humble opinion. A DM that can demonstrate his ability to use different pieces of a puzzle in such a way that it makes for a great piece is something I can truly appreciate and honor.

But what about the players? It is true that 'anyone can play', but really, some of the players are absolutely fantastic at making a great and workable character in a short amount of time. It's also a skill to work roleplaying into the threads of a character, and to really give that character life.

Does our community have an Iron PC contest? If not, I think we should have one. I think that we should honor the best of our players as well as our DMs.

cs,

I was going to do one many moons ago, but somebody beat me to the punch. I think it was Drawmack, IIRC. Not sure if the contest got off the ground though. Seems like it collapsed and never ended. I can't search, otherwise I'd link it for you. Still seems like a good idea, I say go for it if you want to run one.

Good luck,

Jay

I believe that was an Iron NPC tournament, which is quite a different thing.

FIrst of all, I think it would need to be called the Iron Role-Player, not the Iron PC. I think the hardest part of an Iron Role-Player tournament is that it measures something that is best measured in person--that is, how one actually role-plays.

I guess it would be possible.

Here's what I think it would have to be:

Same basic set-up as the Iron DM, 8 contestants, 1 judge, single-elemination. 6 ingredients, but these would have to be things the PC has to react to...

Not only that, but the two contestants are given the same PC to work with...the bare bones of one, that is: class, race, level and a very sketchy personality.

The entries would be point of view reactions to the ingredients, in any order.

Best entry wins.

One more point. Something you'd really want if you're serious about gaining the recognition that the Iron DM has, is a hard-as-nails, nemmerlesque judge who isn't afraid to hurt feelings.
