Try this... In the beginning was the world. The world was a ball of rock and ice floating in icy blackness. There was time, but no way to measure it. There was space, but nothing to live in it. And there were no complaints, because there was nothing to complain. (And nothing for them to complain to, if there had been.) And then the dragons came from wherever dragons come, bringing light and heat and conflict to the world. They melted the ice into oceans and shaped the rocks into mountains and hills and plains. The dragons sought out the treasures hidden in the rock for their own draconic ends, forging creatures out of their own flesh to mine and create things of awesome beauty and power. Some of these creatures came from their blood, with all its power. These were called kobolds. Others they carved from their own flesh. They were tall and strong, but less arcane. These were what we would call lizard men, if we were there: in Draconic, they are kofelsh. And so these little creatures worked and played on and under the world for their draconic masters, who lived in the sky about them, shining down on them like stars. The dragons found their little servants gave them a great deal of power when properly directed. They gave them powers in exchange for their service and homage, and thus became gods to them. Three dragons in particular gathered the most servants and stayed the closest to the world to direct them closely. These three gave so much light and warmth to the world they became known as Suns. Now the conflict between dragons has broken out into open fighting. The thunder of draconic conflict echoes across the heavens, and dragons are dying and falling towards the world to which they gave life. Their rotting bodies fill the water with blood, poisoning some life, changing others. The stars are going out as dragons fall to earth, and as each dragon's light and heat snuffs out, the world chills. The creations of dragonkind are hiding in great strong pyramids, trying to save their own heat, light, and food from the falling bodies and strange creatures created from the dragon's blood. Perhaps somewhere on the world, a little four-legged creature has evolved its first hair follicle. (But likely not.)
