So I'm still plugging away at a campaign setting that, while more or less designed for Pathfinder, is 98% fluff that would work with any system. So let's introduce the elves. Alfari Alfari elves are not exactly Tolkien-esq, nor are they heirs to long lost empires that self-destructed thousands of years ago. These elves have much of their culture loosely adapted from a variety of eastern asian feudalistic civilizations.

The Alfari Empire is recently formed, composed largly of 7 large island states.
Alfari are born in to a caste system (which is for roleplaying purposes, not related to class).
Typically lawful
In foreign lands they have a tendency to stick together, often creating their own legal system (vaguely similar to semetic judaism shia law).
Ceremony and the "proper way of doing things" are very importaint to Alfari

Usually forgiving of other races for their ignorace, alfari are rather harsh with other elves (especially alfari elves) for violating the "proper way of doing things."
What the proper way of doing things are will depend on the GM and the player.

Alfari usually take the long view, sometimes planning years if not centuries in advance. Sometimes this type of thinking leave them vulnerable to things happening here and now.
Physical traits: as most elves, except with warm-colored (browns, blonds, reds, etc) hair
Telfari Telfari elves are the antithesis of the Alfari.

Generally chaotic
While there are Telfari nobles, they do not live as part of a caste system (Alfari consider them in the lowest caste).
Telfari usually live in the moment, and enjoy a good party. Granted, "living in the moment" for an elf is not necessarally too different than the way the average human lives their lives, but there are those who take it to an extreme and live self-destructive lives.
Telfari have darker/cool colored hair (blues, blacks, greens).
Most half-elves are Telfari-Human offspring
Telfari and Alfari elves tolerate each other at best, and are in open conflict at worse. "Racism" is strongest between different types of elves, as both tolerate (and even like) other races easily enough. Heck, sometimes these two get along better with their cousins the drow more so than each other. Okay, elves are still jerks, but they are jerks moreso to each other than anyone else...
