First Post
Well I'm looking at possible settings for a new campaign, and the possiblities include:
1. Planescape
2. Midnight
3.D20 Modern of some sort

Now I've heard lots of great things about Iron Kingodms, but not much substance and descriptions of the play/setting. The site isnt much help either. So i turn to you!

Tell me whats good about it, what the play of it is like,
Flavor?
Classes that it supports

And... i know this is hard... but what are the downsides?

In advance, I appreciate the help. Have fun with this ya'll. if you want throw in warm&fuzzy memories of settings that integrated aspects of IK culture/rules

The setting is phenominally done. The World Guide is worth the read alone. The nations are intriguing and different from each other. There's a lot of opportunity for adventure no matter where the characters start out from, with some varied RP possibilities, especialy if adventurers come from different nations.

The classes that they add are just neat. The Gunmage is an interesting sorcerer variant that uses, well, guns. The Bodger (someone who can fix things) and Arcane Mechanic (someone who can make things) are both interesting as well.

The setting is low magic (comparatively) with Arcane Mechanika filling the void. Items can get Mechankial additions to them. Characters are more limited in inventory because bags of holding and such are dangerous to use, so players have to plan things better. Magical healing by clerics is also more limited, so players can't just charge into battle willy-nilly. Raise Dead is a 9th level spell, and there are no resurrections or true resurrections, so again, death is much more permanent, forcing players to think more about their plans and actions.

The races are well done as are the Dieties. The Monsternomicon is one of the beast monster manual books I've seen.

And, of course, the books themselves are all top notch as far as writing and art.

It's probably my favorite setting of all time, and definitely the best setting for d20 I've seen.

Looks like he did that...

If he just wants to find out about the setting, then the site has lots of stuff.

Did you see the info on history, religion, the nations and races, firearms information, the gunmage and rifleman classes, a bunch of art, previews from the Character Guide and World Guide, and the forums? Doug Seacat often dispenses very cool information on the Kingdoms on them.

Lots of good stuff; I suspect that the OP may have missed some of it.
