Is anyone else REALLY sick of this?

The fan-run official Spelljammer website has been down for days now, with no sign of a new URL that I've seen. Even when it WAS up, it was rarely updated, and when it was updated those updates rarely included anything useful to Spelljammer fans - I think there were maybe one or two conversions. The rest of it seemed like so much bad fanfic (like that lackluster parody of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner"), and even that was mainly - if not ENTIRELY - old stuff that the maintainers were shuffling around into new and different sections.

The maintainers of "Compendium: The Seeker's Archive" have had the honor of carrying on Spelljammer's legacy for something like a year and a half now, and what have they done with it? Very, VERY little. They're just sitting on it.

If you ask me, it's past time WotC told them to shape up or ship out. I'm on the verge of starting a petition asking them to do just that - and perhaps starting up my own SJ site to serve as a possible replacement.

Anyone else feel this way?

I've been generally unimpressed with the "official" setting websites. You'd think that passionate fans of the various out-of-print settings would be jumping at a chance to produce material. Very little seems to be getting done. I understand that it is done by fans and amatuers, but still. I'd expect SOMETHING by now out of 'em.

Exactly. I mean, I know this is a labor of love, and they all have lives and jobs, but...come on. You shouldn't take something like this on if you can't handle it.

I really haven't visited many of the official sites outside the Spelljammer and Ravenloft pages...I've heard good things about the Dark Sun site, but most of the ones I've encountered do seem to have trouble with actually producing material. At least the Kargatane have an excuse in the form of Ravenloft 3rd Edition.

I agree. Few of the "official" sites live up to their potential. The Seeker's in particular.

My name is on the petition if you start one ;)

Well, it goes to show how hard it is to design, and convert, and post, and run a website... I guess...

So hard that it doesn't even really get done? I find that difficult to believe. Especially since there have been unofficial sites that have had no trouble with it, such as Troy Gomm's Spelljammer 3E. Ironically, SJ3E was shut down recently when Troy decided to leave the converting to the official site.

Well, both the Dragonlance and the Dark Sun sites seem to be fairly active. Plus we're getting updated material from the Dark Sun one all the time.

Ok, yes, I concede the point that some of the other official sites are actually quite lovely this time of year. However, seeing as this topic was originally about the Spelljammer site specifically...

Sorry if I sound snippy, folks. It's been a long day. But I would like to get back on track here.
