Is anyone else REALLY sick of this?

Salutations,

If it bothers you so much, then start your own site and ask to take over as the official site.

Otherwise, why complain?

Did you pay the spelljamming site where they owe you something?

I think the point is, Furn, that WotC gave these sites the "official" status, and that should mean something. I'll agree... I've NEVER thought the official spelljammer site was very well done. I suspect there are a lot of people who would be willing to contribute, but the site itself seems dead more often than not. It's been down a heck of a lot, and has had a history of broken links, for example. But for some reason, they got the "official" badge.

It's not like someone can just start up a site and call it official, as I understand it... WotC gives the nod to one site alone.

The PS Official Site

The Planescape Official Site is...getting there. :)

And ps3e is usually fairly active...the webmaster's just having some RL beast right now.

I wouldn't know much about the rest, but, yeah, I'd expect the Spelljammer site to be ahead of the curve, or at least ahead of Dragon magazine, when it comes to making stuff. :)

Thats why I suggested asking to take over as the official site- once one has a site up and active.

Actually, Furn, that's pretty much what I'm planning to do. I'll make a separate announcement about that later tonight or tomorrow.

And yes - I think the maintainers of the official sites do owe us something. I don't expect them to eat, sleep and breathe their settings, but they have control over our favorite worlds. They're not supposed to just sit on it and do nothing; they're supposed to update and maintain those settings, and fulfill their responsibility towards the fans.

This has irritated me about a number of the sites too. All were expected to produce an "official" conversion/3E version of the setting as part of the recognition.

The only significant exception has been Athas.org. Though they havn't managed to meet any of their projected release dates for the 3E version, at least they have kept everyone up to date with most aspects of the conversion.

The Kargatane, of course, is above this criticism, because Ravenloft went back into print. Further, they've produced quite a number of netbooks over the years.

The 3E section of Vaults of Pandius looks like it's finally coming to life, but for the most part the site is just an archive of inconsistent fan material. The same could be said about the DL Nexus.

If you have a problem with the official fan web site, help it. Submit your material. If it has a message board, participate by asking question or posing a debate question. Get your friends onboard.

And if that don't work, as someone mentioned earlier, start your own fan web site.

Be proactive.

Sage advice, Ranger REG. I would imagine it would be even more useful if the site were actually up at the moment.

Further - I daresay fans have been submitting material. I find it difficult to believe that Spelljammer's fans would help out at unofficial sites, such as Troy Gomm's late lamented SJ3E, while utterly ignoring the official one. Yet only a little rules material has made it online.

And honestly, I already said I was thinking about starting my own site and pushing it as a possible replacement. (And the more I think about it, the more I like it.) Or did no one read the "shape up or ship out" part of my post?

Sorry, sorry. I need a nap. Cranky Talaysen is no fun. I know.

Best of luck. I wonder if the new game in Polyhedron will stir up some interest?

I further wonder if WOTC would be interested in farming out the new games in Polyhedron to fan-supported "official" websites?

Hmm. Better start a new thread...
