Is Disable Device a redundant skill?

OK, so I'm reading through the skills, and it suddenly dawns on me. Why does d20 Modern have both Disable Device AND Repair? Is this really necessary?

That depends. Do you want your mechanics and your security/intrusion specialists to be the same people? They are close enough I could see granting a synergy bonus, but I can see keeping them separate.

Well...

If you think about it, there is quite a bit of difference.
First, there's the whole "Repair is putting things back together, while DD is taking them apart." While this may be a bit general, it's the major thing. I've tinkered with many a mechanical device in my day, while for me the easiest part was taking the darned things apart, it was quite another to put them back together again.

Second, they have different uses. Repair is for fixing things with HP damage. While DD is for disabling explosive devices and locks. Fairly straight forward when you look at the skill descriptions.

Yes. You wouldn't believe the number of times I've put things back together and ended up with spare parts that I don't know where they came from.

Half the time I think there are extraneous parts in electronics now a days :)
