Is it possible to slide an enemy by shifting or by making them miss you?
Not all the time. But there are Monk powers that let you move and attack at some time during the move (Expect Table Variation on whether you have to spend a standard action to make the attack- MwaO, who wrote the Monk handbook at WotC/here, argues no, but plenty of DMs may disagree), and combining that with Centered Breath Flurry of Blows could allow forced movement. Powerswapping for Low Slash (not a bad idea unless you need a non-Rogue MC) gets you a minor action Encounter attack that slides. Toss in Cat and Mouse and you can move, make a non-standard attack against one enemy, slide them, then shift around them to get into position- works even better with Centered Breath, especially in Paragon, where you can go after 2 enemies and add another with Starblade Flurry. There's also an interesting Rogue powerswap at 17, Path of the Blade, although how that works is another ETV case (the power is strangely written, and both the online and pocket compendiums have it rendered inaccurately). Regardless, it allows you to attack at least two enemies while shifting and slide both of them if you hit them. Most of these options are going to be melee attacks, though- forced movement with bursts on a striker is problematic. And automatically sliding them when they attack you is the kind of thing that would typically show up in a paragon path, if at all. Furious Bull, at level 13, is a very good burst that does slide, though.
