i've got the day off on friday so i'm thinking about going down to GenCon Indy 2009. I had a lot of fun at DDXP in Ft. Wayne this spring, as well as a 3 day weekend at Origins in Columbus. but my DM says that tickets for events sold out a long time ago. is it still worth it to go down there and look for open events? $80 isn't too bad if i'm there friday & saturday but i'm also checking to see what the cost would be for a hotel, yadda yadda.

Short answer: YES. This will be my third year going, and I still consider myself a baby by gencon standards.

Longer answer:

Events: Most things are pretty filled up, but there WILL be some openings here and there. Even if you can't get into many games, there are still awesome seminars, there's always the chance to wander around and play little things here and there, and the dealer room itself could easily take up days of fun.

It's so much fun. I'm making cookies to take RIGHT NOW! :D

The downside: Hotels. It's going to be a bit tricky finding a room anywhere near the con at this point, though you can probably do it. But be prepared to shell out a LOT of money if you want to stay downtown. And Imean a LOT.

But if you go, and find me (a feat in itself amongst all those people...) I will give you a cookie.

I'd say yes too. I've never been, but I hear it gets bigger, better, and badder each year.

Did you have fun this year?

Why, yes I did, thank you!

I got my pathfinder book first thing thursday morning, had a blast at Tracy Hickman's Xtreme DM seminar, and while the games I played in were not quite as fun as the game you ran last year, they were still very amusing. My friend and I were also standing right under the fire alarm when it went off Saturday night. We joked about "the day Gencon caught fire," but it turned out that it was just some goober smoking in the hallway setting off the alarm.

I'm SO full of ideas right now, and since it will be about six months before my next campaign starts, I have oodles of time to plot and plan maniacally.

That would be awesome, since I am considering that, too. The last year I didn't go anywhere during my vacation (though I had the opportunity to travel twice to the US thanks to my job).

Then we should both make a promise to do it, and to meet up!

My current plan is to put £100 a month aside for it out of my wages (which I reckon I can do, especially with some overtime coming up) and pay for it out of that. Should be enough!

Nearer the time I'll be trying to sort out who I can meet up with. I'm still hoping Morrus will be heading over there, too.
