I believe that they are ALL spontaneous casters. 4e, as far as I'm aware, doesn't use the concept of memorization...

With the changes and the at will and per encounter powers, I don't think the term has any meaning any more. So there probably won't be crippled spellcasters trailing along behind the real spellcasters. Sorcerers may appear later, which could be good since they had some interesting flavor when the dragonblooded thing wasn't being overplayed, but they're going to be different. Almost wild-mage like if the brief comment on them turns out to be true. Which is... unfortunate.

Because all classes have at-will, per-encounter, and per-day abilities, the division between prepared and spontaneous casters is meaningless.

The sorcerer will return, probably in the arcane power source supplement at the end of the year - Races & Classes had this to say about how they will distinguish themselves from wizards:

The power wielded by a sorcerer is powerful enough that even after a spell is done, ambient energy swirls around him. A sorcerer who blasts you will a cold spell is protected by small, swirling cloud of snow and ice for a short time. One who unleashes a fireball bursts into flames that scorch enemies who try to attack. The sorcerer is one with his magic, and he (in some cases quite literally) wears it like a second skin.

It also says that they use different spells from wizards and have a more rudimentary, simplistic style of magic relying on inborn talents.

Man. That makes magic sound much cooler in 4e than it is in 3.5 :D

The 'non' spontaneous elements of casting will be the rituals. Everything else seems to be a fire and forget slotted spell option. But all the info/teleport (long range)/etc spells are being regulated to non combat rituals.

Ugh! I can't believe people like that new desciption of the sorc; its so cheesy and cheap.

Ambient energy. Cool. Second Skin. Ugh.

Give me the sorceror who summons daemons anyday. In fact thats what they ought to have done; Sorceror summons demons and elementals (aka a summoner type class)
Warlock makes pacts with demons and learns to channel some of their power (ek blasts) while the wizard learns to manipulate the 'real' world elements to do his bidding.

Ugh! I can't believe that people don't realize that their personal definitions of 'cheesy' and 'cheap' are subjective and not shared by the rest of the world.

Oh wait - I can believe that. Since I see it here on a daily basis.

Yeah that's exactly what WotC should do. They should take "spontaneous spellcaster" and turn it into "summoner". If you think the fanbase is pissed off now, you should see how they would react to that instead. I mean, nothing wrong with the summoner archetype. Sounds like fun, if a little hard to balance, but fun nevertheless. But why the hell should the sorceror become that? He's never been particularly summon-y. Now he's just got raw inborn magic power at his disposal which he can barely control, Firestarter style. Also fun and much more in tune with the original concept.

(Oh, and... "daemons"? You're not one of them people who spells magic with an extra k, are you?)
