Is this new? AH = WotC?

I was just over at Wizard's home page and I noticed Avalon Hill listed as one of the "Game Destinations". Is this a friendly thing because they're both part of Hasbro, or is AH possibly coming under WotC leadership?

I've seen one person whose name shows up under both companies. I think it was Anthony Valterra, the president of Wizards, who is also overseeing AH business operations.

Okay. So now I know whom to bug about re-releasing Civilization and Advanced Civilization. :)

I always thought it was Hasbro that owned AH, not WotC, though. Oh, well, guess I should get out from under my rock more often.

Since when did Wizards bought AH from Hasbro? Personally, I didn't think they have the capital to acquire AH unless that is the reason why they laid off so many employees.

I'm working off some old memories here, but I think Hasbro bought AH around the same time they bought WotC. Hasbro decided to put the AH game properties with the WotC business unit, since that's where the "niche" sort of games get produced. Of course, I could be thinking of something else entirely.

Wizards didn't buy Avalon Hill, it was an internal shuffle. Hasbro bought AH some time before buying WotC. They put out some high quality updates of classic AH games like Diplomacy and Acquire, and new variants like Axis & Allies: Europe and Pacific. However, Hasbro eventually decided it didn't "get" the hobby market, so they moved AH to the one part of Hasbro that was intimately involved with the it: WotC.
