Island & Skyseer

Hi all,

Occasional lurker but first time poster here, and I thought I’d share what I’ve been doing with Zeitgeist. Perhaps get some thoughts from the community about a few things also.

So I’m running Zeitgeist online for one player through a shared google document. To make up for the lack of a party of PCs, I’ve set her character up as the senior member of a squad of Constables, and given her a group of subordinate characters. So far, it is working well- better than I expected in fact.

We’re just coming up to the end of ‘The Island at the Axis of the World’. The Coaltongue was saved, the island infiltrated, the sea gate opened, the Duchess seized, Asrabey captured and Nathan Jierre granted asylum (all three about to be shipped back to Risur.)
Lya Jierre is on her way to claim the island back for Danor, but the PC is setting in motion a plan to do as much damage to the Danoran factories as possible and as covertly as possible before than handover (to be blamed on the Duchess’ forces of course.) The group’s rogue has also been instructed by the PC to remain on Axis Island, posing as a Danoran to gather as much information as possible about what they’re doing there.

I’m looking forward to ‘The Dying Skyseer’ a great deal. The PC is a half-elf, whose mother was a ‘kept’ high elf that ran away when she was a child with much lingering resentment. Any thoughts on if it would it work to change Gale’s background to be the PC’s mother using another name? I like to complicate things. (Her father is an admiral with the Risuri navy.)

If there is any interest, I could probably make the documents with our game logs on them available, although they'll need some cleanup first.

Thanks!
-RI.

I think based on everything else done so far with Gale, there's no problem with tweaking her backstory that way. It sounds cool.

Well, those wheels are now in motion as we get closer to book 2. I'm pondering whether or how to change the new Gale's goals, as the original comes from a distinctly anti-Danor point of view as well as being anti-technology. I'll likely highlight the second more, but can work the first in as well. The new background goes like this;

Gale, rather than escaping from Danor, is 'rescued' towards the tail end of the 3rd Yerasol War by the PC's father, a (then) young naval officer with his first command. He's more benign than her former Danoran 'family', but after bearing a very unexpected, for a high elf, child, comes to see that she's traded one slavery for another and flees. She leaves her infant daughter behind under the belief that she'll have a better life that way, etc.

After that, she isolates herself for a time, doing a bit of self discovery and coming to a personal realisation about the evils of the 'Danoran way', and then begins to do her Gale thing as per standard.

I'm quite looking forward to the PC meeting Gale and realising that she is her mother. She's very anti high-elf (and dislikes elves in general), having the belief that she was abandoned as a child. I expect it won't go well, but we'll see.

Other than that, just wrapping up Book 1; the PC has become involved in a relationship with Lya Jierre- where both intend to try to covertly use the other for confidential information. It will make the stakes in future books as Lya fully outs herself as an enemy, all the larger, I think.

Other than that, we're doing some brief vignettes to introduce the new 'contacts around Flint' being made in the intervening time and may do a short side mission as well (not sure on what yet.) After that, on to book 2.

Cheers,
-RI.
