For some, it is a calling given by higher powers. But for others, faith is a struggle that leads them onward, uncertain of the truth but filled with hope for a brighter future, or redemption from a painful or shrouded past. Any of the following archetypes would work well for characters who seek to serve a church or faith on a path to redemption, or for those orphaned by the vicissitudes of fate and taken into the care of the faithful to be trained to act as an arm of the faith in the world. By Rachel Williamson.</p><p></p><p><strong>Deep, Dark Woods</strong></p><p>Deep and ancient woods may not contain terrifying monsters, the secrets of elder gods, or the waiting claws of pixies and spiders, but they certainly feel like it. Something about the hushed environs and the earthy smell of decay, coupled with the claustrophobically thick plant growth, makes them feel more dangerous than they really are. Sometimes, however, these fears are justified. By Marc Kenobi.</p><p></p><p><strong>Machines of War: The Clockwork Army</strong></p><p>When discussing a war machine, it is rarely meant literally. Not so with the living constructs that make up the Clockwork Army. While dwarves, grimmlocks, and gnomes seem to have developed these machines independently, but their similar nature means it is likely that there is some common link in their creation. Legends speak of a set of blueprints made by the same ancient machinist discovered separately, a secret meeting of inventors including members of all three groups, and even the whisperings of some nameless machine-god set on bringing its heralds to the material plane through the hands of mortals. However, it can be difficult to come up with the name of yet another tavern, inn, or watering hole when the classics are exhausted.
