It'd be funny if it wasn't so close to the truth

I've got to admit that around 2:20 I stopped being able to understand what he was saying for a little while... However:

Does it remind of of anyone that you've played with? :)

Yep. He was the DM. He said that I couldn't play a wizard because "the class is too complicated for me since I'm a girl and not one of the real players".

I didn't even bother finishing character creation. I just left. I heard that later in that game one of the players told him that one of the others had a giant bug-phobia and asked him to not go too heavy on the insect monsters because of it. He apparently sent them up against very thoroughly described giant centipedes. Then again I know of that guy and he's a jerk in general, not just in the game. What really surprises me is that he apparently has a regular group. And friends.

My only comment to that guy:

I call sheer ass-hattery on that one. I hope that you've found a good group since then. That guy sounds like someone that I wouldn't game with either.

Y'know, you've got me thinking... One of the things that really gets under my skin (as either player or DM) is the rampant discrimination that still thrives among certain circles of gamers. Some groups act like they're in the fifties. I'm not saying that every group that I've ever played with has been like that, but unfortunately, many have.

I do see many people on both sides of the screen that speak slowly and use simpler phrases to address gamers that happen to be female or pick up their dice in front of them and explain what a d20 is and what they are used for. I've seen several DMs that refuse to address a woman to her face and speak to her boyfriend/husband instead about her character. "What does your character do this round, Todd? Oh, and what does Cindy's character do?" That's a good time to pack it up and walk out.
