draft 2 "To those wyrms of pure heart, the Tongue smells like lotus blossums and sweet cinnamon, and its bearer is greeted most favorably. To those who serve her dark Majesty, Queen among the vile wyrms of the Pit, the bearer is hated, and its odor is a foul stench in their nostrils." - Qingseng Yoo, Curator of the Monastic Vault in the Empress's Library - The Gold Dragon's Tongue +1 elven longsword 1d8+1/19-20 (x2) - slashing sheathed: 1d6+1/20 (x2) - bludgeoning The blade of the Gold Dragon's Tongue is made from deep crimson jade inlaid with mithral elven runes. The magical blade, despite being made from stone, is just as light and flexible as a steel blade. It is not quite as hard, though, and somewhat more brittle. The handle is made out of polished darkwood, and the crossguard from adamantine. There is a large black opal set as a counterbalance in the pommel, gripped in an adamantine representation of a dragon's claw. The overall length of the sword is 38 inches. It is an elegant weapon. If the wielder is proficient either with the rapier or longsword, this weapon can be used, and any feats such as Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization and Improved Critical in either weapon apply. Similar feats for different weapons do not stack. The weapon is considered, for those proficient in its use, to be a monk weapon. It may be used as part of a Flurry of Blows attack, although - like a quarterstaff - it only grants the user's strength bonus to damage while flurrying, even if wielded with two hands. It is a medium weapon, though, and thus may not be used in a grapple. The sheathe is a work of art, and of equal craftsmanship to the Tongue. It is made from carved Darkwood, and inlaid with mithral runes and fittings. When the weapon is sheathed, it can be used as a bludgeoning weapon which does damage in every way like a +1 silver nunchuka. When sheathed and held in both hands, the wielder gains the use of the Combat Expertise feat. The sheathe, like the Tongue, is considered a medium weapon and thus may not be used in a grapple. It also does strength damage, even if wielded in two hands. The item grants a +5 circumstance bonus to Diplomacy and Sense Motive rolls to the wielder with regards to good dragons when held or carried, and a -5 circumstance penalty to Diplomacy and Sense Motive rolls when dealing with evil dragons. Both will sense its presence if within 60' feet, although this sense does not correspond to knowing where the sword or its bearer are located. They simply know that it is present. - Written along the blade of the Tongue, in tight, flowing elven script are the following words: May I be a guard for those who are protectorless, A guide for those who journey on the road; For those who wish to go across the water, May I be a boat, a raft, a bridge. May I be an isle for those who yearn for landfall, And a lamp for those who long for light; For those who need a resting place, a bed, For all who need a servant, may I be a slave. May I be the wishing jewel, the vase of plenty, A word of power, and the supreme remedy. May I be the trees of miracles, And for every being, the abundant giver. Like the great earth and the four elements, Enduring as the sky itself endures, For the boundless multitude of living beings, May I be the ground and vessel of their life. Thus, for every good and pure thing that lives, In number like the boundless reaches of the sky, May I be their sustenance and nourishment, Until they pass beyond the bounds of suffering. - I also intend to allow this weapon to be "awakened" like a samurai's ancestral daisho, by prayer, meditation, the sacrifice of experience and the sacrifice of treasure.
